Being short staffed in the car business will have you answering the phone, greeting a customer, hunting down keys, and trying to remember whether you’ve eaten today—all within the same five minutes. 😂
You sit down to send a follow-up text, somebody needs a vehicle pulled around. You head outside, your phone rings. You finally get back to your desk, and the customer you’ve been waiting on walks through the door. Next thing you know, it’s late afternoon, your lunch is cold, and you’ve walked that lot like you’re training for the Olympics.
I love helping people. I love seeing somebody get excited about their new ride. But I’ll be honest: loving what you do doesn’t mean you never get worn out doing it.
When there aren’t enough hands, everybody feels it. Customers wait longer, coworkers get stretched thin, and even a small task can turn into a whole production. You want to give every person your full attention, but there are days when you wish you could make three copies of yourself.
That’s when teamwork matters most. Pulling a vehicle around for somebody. Giving a waiting customer an update. Stepping in so a coworker can take ten minutes to eat. Those little things can keep a hectic day from becoming an overwhelming one.
And to the customers who give us a little patience and kindness while we’re running around: thank you. We know your time matters. A smile and an “I understand” go a long way when we’re trying to keep everything moving.
Being short staffed can teach you how to handle pressure, but people still need support, breaks, and time to breathe. There’s only so much coffee and determination can do. 😂
So here’s to everybody covering extra ground, helping their coworkers, and still finding a reason to laugh through the day. Sometimes the smile is real, sometimes it’s holding on by a thread—but we’re doing our best. 🤍
