What My Customers Have Taught Me

Homer Skelton Ford's Blog | What My Customers Have Taught Me

When I first started my career in automotive sales, I thought I was here to help people find the right vehicle.

While that's certainly a big part of what I do, I've learned something even more important along the way.

My customers have taught me just as much as I've helped them.

Every person who walks through the doors has a different story, a different reason for being there, and a different chapter of life they're living. Getting to be a small part of those moments is something I'll never take for granted.

Every Customer Has a Story

One of the things I love most about this job is getting to know the people behind the purchase.

Some customers are celebrating a milestone.

Others are preparing for one.

I've helped retirees purchase the truck they've dreamed about for years. I've helped growing families find an SUV with enough room for everyone. I've met first-time buyers who were excited—and a little nervous—to buy their very first vehicle.

Every conversation reminds me that buying a car isn't just another transaction.

It's a life event.

Kindness Goes a Long Way

One lesson my customers have taught me is that kindness is something people never forget.

Some of the sweetest customers I've worked with have become people I'll always remember—not because of the vehicle they bought, but because of the conversations we shared.

I've laughed with customers, celebrated with them, and even learned from their life experiences.

Some days, it feels like I've gained new friends instead of just new customers.

Patience Matters

Not everyone is ready to buy the same day.

Some people need time.

Some have questions.

Some simply need someone who's willing to listen.

I've learned that being patient and genuinely trying to help someone always goes further than trying to rush a decision.

When people feel heard, they feel comfortable—and that's exactly the experience I want every customer to have.

It's Never Just About the Car

One thing that surprised me most when I started in this business is that people rarely remember every detail about the vehicle.

But they always remember how they were treated.

They remember whether someone listened.

They remember whether someone cared.

They remember whether someone made the process enjoyable.

That's the experience I strive to create every single day.

Why I Love What I Do

People often ask me what my favorite part of this job is.

It's simple.

The relationships.

The conversations.

The smiles when someone gets the keys to their new vehicle.

Watching someone drive away excited in a vehicle they truly love never gets old.

Those moments remind me why I chose this career.

Thank You

To every customer who has trusted me, laughed with me, shared their stories, or allowed me to be part of such an exciting milestone—thank you.

You've taught me that this job is about so much more than selling cars.

It's about people.

It's about relationships.

And it's about making a difference, one customer at a time.

I'm incredibly grateful for every person who has walked through our doors, and I can't wait to meet many more.
