If you’ve never floated Spring River, you’re missing out on one of the prettiest spots in the Mid-South. Just a couple of hours from the Memphis area, Spring River in Hardy, Arkansas, is the perfect weekend getaway whether you’re looking to relax or have a little adventure.
The crystal-clear, spring-fed water stays around 58 degrees year-round, making it the perfect escape from the summer heat. Whether you’re floating in a canoe, kayak, raft, or tube, you’ll wind through beautiful scenery with towering bluffs, gravel bars, and plenty of places to stop and enjoy the day.
Fishing? Spring River is known for its trout fishing thanks to its cold, clear water. Anglers come from all over hoping to reel in rainbow, brown, and cutthroat trout. Even if fishing isn’t your thing, it’s hard not to appreciate how peaceful it is watching people cast a line while the river flows by.
One of my favorite things about Spring River is that there’s something for everyone. Want a relaxing float? Grab a tube. Looking for more excitement? Rent a kayak and tackle the river’s gentle rapids. Traveling with family or friends? Pack a cooler, bring some snacks, and make a full day of it.
A few tips before you go:
- Wear water shoes—the rocks can be slippery.
- Bring plenty of sunscreen and stay hydrated.
- Secure your phone and valuables in a waterproof bag.
- Always wear a life jacket, even if you’re a strong swimmer.
- Leave the river cleaner than you found it.
Sometimes the best vacations aren’t the ones that require a plane ticket—they’re the ones right in our own backyard. Spring River offers beautiful scenery, cold water, and memories you’ll be talking about long after the trip is over.
